Erg Chebbi
Erg Chebbi

An "erg" is a sea of dunes, formed by the trade winds located between 20° to 40° N and 20° to 40° S latitudes. Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco's two ergs in the Sahara. Ergs are a geological phenomenon of terrestrial planets and can also be found on Mars, Venus, and Titan.

A moorish-style corridor in the Hassan II Mosque of Casablanca, one of the largest mosques in the world, The marble and granite pictured were both sourced from Morocco.

Royal Stables of Meknes
Royal Stables of Meknes

Built between 1672 and 1727, the sultan of Morocco Moulay Ismail (and founder of the current dynasty) constructed impressive royal stables, capable of housing 12,000 horses and feeding them for 20 years. Moulay Ismail's grandson, Sultan Muhammad III, eventually became the first head of state to formally recognize the United States of America as a sovereign government with the treaty of Peace and Friendship in 1777.

There was a time in Rabat's history in which the people of the medina gathered their water from public fountains. Since the incorporation of modern plumbing, allowing for water to be pumped directly into homes, public fountains such as this one have fallen into disrepair.

Oudayas Kasbah II

Private residences located in the Oudayas Kasbah, the oldest part of Rabat. Muslim refugees populated the area as they fled Spain in the 17th century. Today, around 2000 Rabatis live here.
